Format: MLA format and documentation of sources will be required. This paper will be 4 pages (1000 words), have a clear thesis, introduction, body and conclusion.

Topic:Due to proximity with Egyptian culture, many historians of religions believe that Egypt’s myths and religious customs had an impact on religious concepts of the Israelites, and vice-a-versa. Take a position and argue whether or not you believe Egyptian religion influenced Jewish concepts of religion. The main topics you will explore are the influence of wisdom texts, Myths, and the reign of Amenhotep 4^th. Feel free to argue your opinion either way, but be sure to use quotations from the readings to support your ideas.

Structure: begin with an introduction that outlines the purpose and topics of your essay. For your first body paragraph, read the first 4 chapters of the book of Proverbs, the Wisdom of Amenemope, as well as an Egyptian Contribution to the Book of Proverbs (See blackboard for documents). After reading these texts, write a comparison or contrast paragraph on the topic of whether or not Egyptian wisdom texts influenced the book of Proverbs.  Next, turn your attention to Egyptian and Hebrew creation Myth from the Egyptian Lecture and the iBook. Again, write a comparison or contrast paragraph on the similarities or differences between these cosmological accounts. Lastly, refer to the section of the Egyptian Lecture that accounts for the reign of Amenhotep the 4^th. Speculate whether or not Jewish religion could have influenced such radical religious reforms. End with a summative conclusion.
